According the head of North Korea's news and information agency (pictured below), the Jonga is AOK. But some doubts have been raised by newly released photographs and the official statement that the Jonga recently ran an ultra-marathon in 2:17 (which incidentally would make a personal best - so if it's true, then congratulations buddy).
The most suspect photograph is pictured below. As you can see, the black line that runs along what appears to be a concrete structure dissipates in the area immediately to the left and right of the Jonga. Also, closer up, the areas around his feet and legs appear to have mix-matched pixels. It is also clear that the shadow around the Jonga's leg is different in length from the shadows cast by the other subjects. Also, Barney is not in the North Korean Army.

You know Barney might not be but i am sure Big Bird and all his buddies are.
While not actually in the North Korean army, Barney holds the honorary rank of Lieutenant-General, which was conferred on him in 1993 by Kim Jong-il's father, Kim Il-sung.
It's the same rank as Big Bird, and gives Barney command of the 3rd Peoples Light Armour Brigade in the event of an outbreak of hostilities.
Big Bird commands the 7th Peoples Light Armour Brigade, Mr Snuffleupagus the 8th, while Bert holds the rank of Field Marshall and as of August 2006has Area command of the PyongYang Peoples Defence Corps.
